St. Clair and Madison County area St. Vincent assistance programs.

Churches and parishes that are part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Belleville and southern Illinois provide services to low income families and the needy. Examples of some of their assistance programs are listed below. In general, St. Vincent de Paul will try to meet basic needs and/or help qualified families that are faced with a crisis. The conferences that are part of this charity organization cover the southern part of Illinois, including Madison, Monroe and St. Clair County. Other regions are supported too. Some examples of those core services that are offered are done so through a local parish group known as a conference, and many churches and religious organizations administer this. There are almost 20 different conferences in the region and they provide various forms of material and financial assistance. While funding is limited, and many centers rely heavily on donations, some of what can be offered is as follows. Rent and utilities – This can include assistance for people faced with a crisis, eviction, or utility disconnection. Or if your heat is to be turned off or if you are out of oil, then assistance may be offered. Energy, natural gas, and electricity assistance is offered. Transportation – While not as common, the society may have funds for vehicle repairs or maybe vouchers for gasoline, if you need transportation for work. Basic needs – St. Vincent can facilitate clothing, food, personal hygiene, free school supplies, winter coats and similar aid for the Belleville region. Some seasonal and holiday programs may be facilitated. Medical needs – This is limited, and very basis. It can include pharmacy and doctor visits. The churches serve as one of the key charity organizations for the region. These local conferences are the basic unit of organization of the Society of Saint Vincent and the services and assistance they provide are a key function of the group.
