Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners help struggling people in San Joaquin County. Hot meals, food, and groceries are prepared and distributed to low income, senior and homeless population on Christmas and Thanksgiving Day. Some homebound people may have meals delivered to them by volunteers who work with the Salvation Army. Many holiday items are paid for by the Red Kettle Campaign. This operates during the Christmas season, and is arguably the most visible community-wide Salvation Army program. is held every holiday season by KJOY and the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots. The groups collect new toys, coats and gifts for children whose families are living below the federal government poverty level. The majority of the toys are collected through Angel Tree program (see above). However, in addition to the Angel Tree, each year the Salvation Army makes a commitment to help hundreds of additional local children who aren’t served by any other holiday resources. This can include toy drives by service clubs, non-profit agencies, companies, churches, schools, local stores and other community groups help provide toys, clothes, and gifts so all the children the list will receive gifts.
